Experience authentic Shanghai-style wontons, handmade fresh by my mother using traditional family recipes. Each wonton is carefully crafted and immediately frozen to lock in the flavour and quality.

Cooking Instructions

Prep Time: Approximately 10 minutes

  1. Remove frozen wontons from freezer (no need to defrost).
  2. Place desired amount of wontons in a saucepan or pot. Add enough room temperature or tap water to fully submerge the wontons, ensuring they have space to move around without being too crowded.
  3. Bring wontons to a boil. Give the wontons a gentle stir every now and then so they don't stick together or to the bottom of the pot.
  4. Once boiling, carefully drain out as much water as you can safely—try to pour out at least half. Please be careful as the water is very hot.
  5. Add cold tap water back to the saucepan or pot (approximately the same amount you started with). If possible, stir the wontons gently in this cold water—this makes the wonton skins shiny and glistening.
  6. Bring wontons back to a boil. Once boiling, turn down the heat to medium or medium-low so they're at a gentle simmer. Simmer for another 2-3 minutes and they're ready to serve!

Serving Suggestions:

Soup Style: In a bowl, add a dash (½ teaspoon) of white pepper, 1-2 teaspoons of chicken powder or bouillon (adjust to taste), and 1-2 teaspoons of soy sauce (optional, adjust to taste). Use a ladle to transfer wontons to the bowl and add desired amount of wonton cooking water for the broth base.

Dry Style: Strain wontons and serve on a plate with a bit of space between them so they don't stick. Drizzle with soy sauce, Chinese black vinegar, and chilli oil, or make a dipping sauce on the side.

Enjoy!
